Streamlay Help
Troubleshooting for playback, 4K and HD video, casting, media scanning, private folder behavior, downloads, and background playback.
Playback issues
The video does not play or shows an error
- Open the playback screen and try a different decoder option if the menu is available, such as Auto, Hardware, or Software decoder.
- Check whether the file can be opened by another player. If the file is damaged or incomplete, Streamlay may not be able to recover it.
- If the file is on an SD card or external storage, copy it to internal storage and try again.
- Update Streamlay and restart your device if the issue affects several files.
When you contact support, include your device model, Android version, file format, and what happens on screen.
4K and HD video
High-resolution playback depends on your device hardware, codec support, storage speed, and the video file itself. For smoother playback, close other heavy apps, keep enough free storage, and use local files rather than unstable network sources when possible.
If a 4K file stutters, try a different decoder mode or play a lower-bitrate version of the same video.
Cast Help
How to cast media
- Connect your phone and the TV, Chromecast, or smart display to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open a video in Streamlay and wait for the cast button to appear on the playback screen.
- Tap the cast button and choose the device you want to use.
- If casting starts but playback fails, try a different file format or codec.
- The phone and cast device are not on the same Wi-Fi network.
- The cast device is powered off, sleeping, or not ready for discovery.
- VPN, guest Wi-Fi, router isolation, or firewall settings are blocking local discovery.
- The current media format is not supported by the cast device.
- Nearby Wi-Fi/device permission has not been granted on Android versions that require it.
Google Cast devices support different media formats, codecs, resolutions, and frame rates depending on the device model. You can check Google's Supported Media for Google Cast page for technical compatibility details.
Media library and scanning
Streamlay scans your device so it can show playable media in one library. The first scan can take longer if your device contains many videos, audio files, images, or nested folders.
- Grant the media or file access permissions requested by Android.
- Keep large temporary download folders clean if they slow down scanning.
- If available in your version, use the in-app scan list or folder-management options to hide folders you do not want scanned.
Private folder and locked files
If a private or locked media file is stored on an SD card, Android storage rules may limit how Streamlay can move, rename, or hide it. For best results, keep enough free internal storage and move the file to internal storage before locking it.
If a locked item still appears in the folder list, refresh the media library or hide the original folder from scanning if your version provides that option.
Background playback, downloads, and notifications
Background playback and user-started downloads may use Android foreground-service notifications. These notifications help Android keep the active playback or transfer task reliable while Streamlay is not on screen.
- For background playback, keep the playback notification enabled.
- For downloads, keep the progress notification enabled until the task finishes.
- If playback stops in the background, check battery optimization settings for Streamlay.
